CATCH THE VISION
“Our vision is pure. We love sports, and the sports program at Clovis Christian is catching fire with the newly formed high school tackle football program, and the overwhelming numbers of kids taking part in our soccer program. However involved we may be with sports, nothing will take the place of academics. The standards are being raised as we want our schools to be the finest quality found in any private school anywhere. CATCH THE VISION” ~ Sherman S. Smith, Ph.D., Executive Vice President of Clovis Christian Schools.
HISTORY
Clovis Christian School was founded in 1977 by Dr. Lloyd Ledbetter. At that time it was called Chestnut Avenue Baptist Academy (CABA) and was located at 1461 North Chestnut Avenue, Fresno, California, 93703. It was set on one and a half acres of land in a residential area. From its inception, the school was a kindergarten through twelfth grade organization. Forty-five students were enrolled that first year. The school was started to offer the local community an alternative to the area’s public school education. From its beginning, CABA established its uniqueness by including Bible courses in the curriculum.
Dr. J. Otis Ledbetter became CABA’s president in 1985. It was clear that the school’s growth demanded more resources and a larger facility. After over a decade of searching, a suitable property was finally located. During the three-year transition, the school rented space from Victory Christian Fellowship, 3600 Fowler, Clovis, California, 93611. The school moved to its present location in September, 2000. Clovis Christian School is now situated on 19 ½ acres in a suburban-residential setting at 3105 Locan Avenue, Clovis, California, 93619. An established Independent Studies Program came to CABA in 1996 and requested to operate under the school’s umbrella. It was approved and has operated with its own director since September, 1996.
June 1, 2007, brought Dr. Sherman Smith to Clovis Christian Schools. He is the executive vice president in charge of all business matters for the school.
Kimberly Bonjorni, MaE, became the superintendent of schools on July 1, 2007 and is responsible for the daily operations of Clovis Christian Schools.
